Welcome to the first week of my book recommendations, these are my own personal recommendations from books I have read recently and in the past and they are not in any particular order or publication date and occasionally I may recommend books from the book chart.
A Month in the Country by J.L Carr
A story about a man shell shocked from World War one takes a job in Oxgodby in Yorkshire, restoring a medieval mural painting at the church. He finds himself there: friends, best friends and a love interest. A slow story, it is not an action story, but it demonstrates how life used to be, and how hospitable the Yorkshire country people were to him. Carr’s vivid description of the place paints with words how beautiful the surrounding Yorkshire countryside is and echoes a pastoral novel in a similar way to Thomas Hardy.
I love the description of Tom Birkin love interest, showing her vulnerability in her own home but showing confidence outside of it while hinting at a mutual growing affection for one and another. However, both characters are cautious and scared as Alice Keach his love interest is married to the Vicar, his employer. A beautiful written story and I would recommend reading this book. See my full review here.

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter book series 1-7. This is one of my favourite book series of all time. I put off buying the books for so long as I knew I would be obsessed with these books. When I first read Deathly Hallows book 1, I stayed up until 2.30 in the morning. The action scenes were so vivid, fast paced and descriptive. I adore J.K. Rowlings writing, her command of English language and impeccable grammar is so impressive. I will read all the of Harry Potter books again and again.

P.S. I love you by Cecelia Adhern
One of my favourite books is P.S. I love you by Cecelia Adhern. A movie by the same name was released in 2007 starring Hiliary Swank and Gerard Butler. The story is about Holly who loses her soulmate, her husband Gerry. Gerry was a kind, caring and fun-loving Irish man and he passed away from cancer but before he died, he arranged letters to be sent to Holly after his death in order to help his wife cope with losing him. The book is told from a different perspective than the film such as Holly was from a large family, and they lived in Ireland in the book whereas the film was based in New York and showed a strained relationship between her and her mother.
Adhern’s writing pulls at the heartstrings, so much love shines through her words from the character of Gerry and I felt the pain of Holly’s loss, at times I have to put the book down as I was crying. It has been years since I read this book, but it still stays with me. Since then, I have bought every book Cecelia has published.
